Overview of the Surgical Process

The Screening Process

We carefully screen each cat prior to any surgical procedure being performed. This is to ensure that they are healthy enough to proceed.

Older pets, especially, as well as those suffering from existing medical conditions, benefit from this screening, because they can be more at risk during surgery. So, pre-surgical screening assists us in identifying potential risk factors in advance, meaning that we don't expose your cat to unnecessary risk.

The more prepared we are in advance of the surgery, the better the chances of a smooth, uneventful procedure.

Pain Management Plan

Once kitty is cleared for surgery, we'll begin working on an individualized plan for pain management.

Our goal is to minimize any risk, while also keeping your feline friend pain-free. We want to be sure that we prevent pain before it even begins, so that s/he has as little stress as possible afterwards.

The Day of the Surgery

Communication with our cat moms and dads has always been a top priority at Scaredy Cats, and surgery days are especially important. We'll take the time to explain to you what to expect, and to answer your questions as thoroughly as we can.

Then we'll take time to get your baby settled in and comfortable. (The more at ease and relaxed your cat is, the better the surgical process will go.)

When we're ready to begin, we'll start by administering an individually-tailored protocol designed to induce anesthesia both comfortably and safely.

During the Surgery

When the surgery begins, the doctor will work as efficiently as possible. We will never rush through surgery; however, we do make an effort to minimize the amount of time your kitty will be under anesthesia. This reduces the risks associated with all anesthetic procedures.

Meanwhile, our experienced veterinary technicians will closely monitor your cat throughout the procedure, remaining in constant communication with the doctor.

After the Surgery

Our veterinary assistants will gently relocate your cat from surgery to the recovery area.

Once the surgery is complete, your kitty will be relocated to our hospital recovery area. Our care team will monitor him/her as the anesthesia begins to wear off, and will ensure that the pain management plan is in place.

One of our team members will contact you to explain how the procedure went and to let you know of any updates or findings. We'll also arrange a pick-up time with you.

Before your bring your loved one home, we'll spend time with you, reviewing any instructions you'll need to care for kitty at home during the recovery process.
