This, in turn, can cause periodontal disease, which, if left untreated, can spread infection throughout your cat's entire body, causing a number of serious health problems -- and even shortening your loved one's life.

Yet despite the importance of dental care, many cat owners overlook it. (In fact, by the time your cat turns 3, she or he may already suffer from some type of oral health problem. That's scary!)

The good news is that, with proper care and cleaning, your friend's oral health can be maintained, increasing the chances of a longer, healthier life.

Here at the Scaredy Cat Hospital, we recognize the danger that overlooking oral health can pose. Each exam we provide includes a very close look at your kitty's teeth and gums. We'll check for bad breath, unhealthy gums, and broken teeth, and plaque -- all signs of a dental problem.

What Happens if My Cat Needs Oral Surgery?

If we find an existing oral health problem when we examine your kitty, we offer comprehensive professional feline dentistry services, including tooth extractions and oral surgery.

Our professional feline dentistry services are performed in-house, and we use only leading-edge dental equipment and tools.

Should your companion need a dental procedure, s/he will be carefully sedated during dental procedures using the safest, most effective anesthetic product available.

Kitty’s safety and comfort will be closely monitored throughout the entire process using the most modern monitoring equipment, and under the exceptional care of our highly skilled veterinary technicians.

Prevention is Always Best

Our goal at Scaredy Cats is really to help you with routine preventative care -- so that your loved one doesn't have to experience oral surgery or a tooth extraction.

To that end, our team would be happy to show you how to brush your kitty's teeth. (Annual cleanings aren't always enough to stop the buildup of plaque and tartar, so we need your help in caring for your cat's oral health.) 

We can also offer guidance and recommendations on home dental care products for pets. (Hint: You should never use human toothpaste on cats!)

Watch for Signs (And Call Us Immediately If You See Them)

Keep a close eye out, as well, for some of these common signs and symptoms of feline dental disease:

• Bad breath

• Drooling

• Dropping food

• Loss of appetite

• Swollen or painful face

• Pawing at the mouth

• Yellow, broken, loose or missing teeth

• Gums that are red, swollen or bleeding
